I've been thinking a lot lately about how as a society we've become so judgemental. I read things in magazines and newspapers and people are just so picky! They criticize everything from hairstyles, to what shoes you wear, to lipstick to size to your taste in music, etc. etc. etc.
You know what I think? I think we've been simonized. Not the old floor cleaner junk from the 1970s, but Simon Cowell. All these crazy reality shows that everyone watches makes us think we can sit in judgement on everyone around us. Simon Cowell, from American Idol, has gotten a lot of attention for being cruel and it feels like it's spilling out over all of us.
I mean, really, how much does it matter what someone else does as long as they aren't hurting you? I say, if you're happy and it's not hurtful to your family and friends and those around you, then enjoy yourself! And who cares what Tim Gunn and Simon Cowell think!

Amen to that. My tennis coach told me something once that always stuck with me. He said "you do what you know is right and to heck with everyone else" Only he didn't say heck. But I think that is true, do what is right and makes you happy and don't worry about anyone else. And don't judge other people for doing the same. Everyone is different, but everyone has something to offer.
My Dad has a great quote: "Be kind, everyone is fighting their own battle." Wouldn't this world be a better place if we could just show each other the love our Heavenly Father feels for us???
I agree too! Simon is mean; hopefully those poor contestants take him with a grain of salt.
When my kids start to compare themselves to others, or say that they aren't good at something, I always remind them what a boring place the world would be if we were all good at the same things.
I enjoyed the General women's meeting-where President Uctdorf spoke to anyone who "has ever felt inadequate." (I think that covers all of us!) I needed his reminder to try a new skill, and not let the fear of failure paralyze us from trying; to rejoice in our accomplishments, no matter how big or small. The world can sure knock us down, but I think that we are too hard on ourselves as well!
